Phoenix Rising Equine Rescue, Inc.
(A Connecticut State Non-Profit Corporation)
Mission Statement
Our main goal and focus at Phoenix Rising Equine Rescue is to rescue at risk equines, bring them back to good health and condition, retrain them and help them learn to be "normal horses" again. We place them in good quality homes so that they are able to live out a normal life. We provide permanent homes to those horses that are considered not adoptable due to injuries or behavior problems resulting from mistreatment by human beings in the past. We place horses with sufficient adoption fees to ensure a good home for the animal as well as to provide funding to support horses not yet ready for placement. We provide education to future owners by providing training on proper care, nutrition, shelter, and proper riding techniques. We place particular emphasis on providing training and education to owners when an animal may be at risk for neglect, abuse or other mismanagement. Additionally, Phoenix Rising is established to increase public awareness of horse slaughter, neglect and abuse. Phoenix Rising educates the public on equine care. We provide training to Vocational Agriculture students. The purpose of this education is to prevent any abuse or neglect from occurring in the future due to owner ignorance.
Our organization provides help to equine owners in times of natural or personal disaster. For example: we provide temporary shelter to horses whose owners are unable to provide for them because of personal or financial difficulites. These situations include, divorce, loss of job, loss of property or property damage due to natural disaster or fire. We rehabilitate neglected and abused equines. Equines that are neglected or abused are given the care they need to recover from starvation, neglect or abuse. Vet care, proper nutrition, adequate housing, human kindness and farrier care are provided to help the equine recover. Recovered horses are evaluated for placement in adoptive homes. Fees for adoption range from $300-$500 to ensure that good homes are provided. Unwanted equines are accepted at this facility to prevent neglect and abuse or shipment to slaughter. Adoptive homes are sought for these animals. Phoenix Rising Equine Rescue works with other area rescues and organizations to assist law enforcement in seizing neglected and abused equines and provides forster care for these animals until adoptive homes can be found. In addition this organization works with other organizations to place injured racehorses in alternative adoptive homes or provide them permanet residence if a suitable home cannot be found.
