When my husband first showed me an article in the local paper about Phoneix Rising and it's need for volunteers, I felt that it was the perfect opportunity for us both to do something we loved and help others at the same time.  I've always been a huge horse fan and, although my husband is an animal lover, he was never really comfortable around horses.  Well, that changed when we started working at the farm.  I'm not sure it's possible, but I think he may love these horses even more than I do now.  Being around these gentle animals truly relieves any stress you may have in your life.  It so amazingly therapeutic! 

 

When Dallas first arrived at the farm he was drastically underweight, but his sweet personality attracted everyone to him.  I fell in love with him and was really excited at the possibility of adopting him.  He's changed so much since we first saw him, both physically and emotionally.  He's become a confident, well-adjusted and happy animal, and has gained most of his weight back.  I love being around him and look forward to the day when I'll be able to ride him.  He's brought a lot of joy into my life and hopefully will continue to do so for many years.

 

As for Phonenix Rising itself, I can't say enough about the selfless dedication and love that Sue gives to these magnificent animals.  They owe their lives to her and I think they know it.  When she's around them you can literally feel the bond between her and each and every one of them.
